Wine Donations and the Pink Ball Tournament

Did you see the last article in our Villager? Were you saddened at how many of our friends, neighbors and their families have lost loved ones to cancer? Were you amazed at how many survivors are among us?

The fight to find a cure for cancer is still on, and with the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, more cures can be found with their trail blazing path in “precision medicine, which develops therapies targeting very specific cellular malfunctions that lead to cancer.” It is indeed possible that the work conducted at the Knight Cancer Institute “will revolutionize the detection and treatment of cancer.”

On September 15, the 10th annual Charbonneau Pink Ball golf tournament will once again take place. Last year over 180 golfers, and over 100 volunteers and donors raised over $35,000 to support the Knight Cancer Institute and help them succeed in the “Billion Dollar Challenge”. This year we hope to raise even more money to support the amazing research the Knight Cancer Institute is undertaking.

We with CWGA are excited about our opportunity to raise a significant amount of money for OHSU Knight Cancer Foundation. By selling wine by the glass and auctioning off the leftover cases of wine, CWGA raised over $2100 last year. Our leftover cases of wine, (that were not sold buy the glass) were sold at the auction for up to $300 each. We hope to raise even more this year, but we need your help. We can’t do it without donations of wine and beer. (the beer has already been donated).

Please bring 4 bottles of wine (or more if you can) of wine that YOU would drink and that was purchased in Oregon. Please bring it to Elaine Junta’s at 32675 SW Lake Point Ct (694-2888). by Sunday, September 6. Costco & Trader Joe’s have some wonderful wines at great values—-as do all the local stores of Wilsonville. If you like the value of double bottles, that works too. If Elaine is not home, please leave the wine at the front door with your name on it for later acknowledgement.

If you can’t supply 4 bottles, please donate what you can–all wine is appreciated. As well, if you have any “special” bottles that you wish to donate, please do so, with a note indicating that it is special and why.

This year, Susie Taylor has taken on the project of filling two ice chests with the OSU and U of O logos with various Beaver and Duck items. These will be auctioned off at the tournament and we hope to get a bidding war going on between the two groups of fans. If you would like to donate something to this project (Fred Meyer has a lot of things for sale at 25% off), please contact Susie at 694-5269.

Each year people who have been touched by cancer have purchased signs for their loved ones who lost the fight and for those who are survivors. If cancer has touched someone you love, please consider purchasing a sign in their honor. For $50 you can honor them in a touching way with their name and your words printed on a sign displayed on the golf course for this tournament. It is truly beautiful to see so many signs purchased by Charbonneau residents to honor those they love. I have purchased a sign for several years, and am always moved when I see the name of my dear friend who lost the fight.

It is very easy to do and forms for the purchase and explanation of the design parameters are in the Niners area.

Corporate and individual sponsorship have played an important part to our success. We have sponsorship levels of $750, $500 and $250. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, or know of someone or a business that would be interested, please let me know, and I will direct the appropriate information to you or them. Please consider contacting just one person–your stockbroker, insurance agent, doctor, lawyer, favorite restaurant owner etc. If everyone did this, we could more than double our past donation. Call Dana at 694-6983 and she will help you.

All women, all men or mixed groups can play in this 9 hole tournament. Lunch is $20 which includes a donation to the Knight Institute. As well, we will auction many donated items including beach homes, dinners, the wine donated by CWGA and more. Playing is a lot of fun along with the luncheon following. More money is raised through grab bags, mulligans, “safe” water balls and more. Sign-up soon, as the golf fills up quickly. No golf? Come to lunch only.

Remember, all donation checks are made directly to the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. Its easy to donate, easy to participate and easy to be a part of the “cure”.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. CWGA was extremely generous last year, and we hope it will be the same this year..
